Spring Cleaning!

Welcome to the season of renewal! As the flowers bloom and the birds chirp, it's time to rejuvenate our living spaces with a thorough spring cleaning. Something about cleaning can be so meditative and therapeutic. Is it just me? Maybe I am just crazy!


Whether you're a seasoned cleaner or a newcomer, here is a comprehensive checklist for those that may be more detailed and a cheatsheet that is a bit more manageable.

1. Declutter: Before diving into the cleaning process, start by decluttering each room. Donate or discard items you no longer need or use. Remember, less clutter means less to clean! Let it be a metaphor. A decluttered space helps declutter the mind as well.


2. Supplies: Gather your cleaning supplies to ensure you have everything you need. Essential items include:

  • All-purpose cleaner

  • Glass cleaner

  • Disinfectant wipes

  • Broom and dustpan

  • Vacuum cleaner

  • Microfiber cloths

  • Wood cleaner/wax

  • Mop

  • Rubber gloves

  • Exterior cleaning spray

3. Room-by-Room Checklist:


Kitchen:

  • Clean inside and outside of appliances (microwave, oven, refrigerator).

  • Wipe down countertops, cabinets, and backsplash.

  • Scrub sink and faucet.

  • Empty and clean out the pantry.

  • Clean inside and outside of trash can.

  • Sweep and mop floors.

Bathroom:

  • Scrub bathtub, shower, and tiles.

  • Disinfect toilet, sink, and countertops.

  • Clean mirrors and windows.

  • Replace shower curtain liner if necessary.

  • Launder bath mats and towels.

  • Organize toiletries and discard expired products.

Bedroom:

  • Wash bedding, including sheets, pillowcases, and comforters.

  • Vacuum and rotate mattress.

  • Dust furniture, including nightstands and dressers.

  • Declutter bedside tables and dressers.

  • Clean windows and window treatments.

  • Vacuum or mop floors.

Living Room:

  • Dust all surfaces, including shelves, tables, electronics.

  • Vacuum upholstery and under cushions.

  • Clean windows and window treatments.

  • Polish wooden furniture.

  • Organize entertainment center and declutter shelves.

  • Vacuum or mop floors.

Miscellaneous:

  • Launder curtains and blinds.

  • Dust and wipe down baseboards and ceiling fans.

  • Clean light fixtures and lampshades.

  • Wipe down doors and doorknobs.

  • Clean air vents and replace filters.

  • Sweep and clean outdoor spaces (patio, balcony).

4. Deep Cleaning Tasks: If time permits, tackle these deep cleaning tasks for an extra fresh start:

  • Steam clean carpets.

  • Clean grout and tile. Recaulk any necessary areas.

  • Polish silverware and jewelry.

  • Wipe down walls and touch up paint.

  • Clean out gutters.

  • Organize garage or storage spaces.


5. Celebrate: Grab a mocktail or cocktail, make a nice treat, relax & revel in your hard work!
